Deyaska Spencer Sweatman, Esq.

Deyaska Spencer Sweatman is the Founder and Managing Attorney of The Deyaska Spencer Law Firm, a personal injury law firm serving injured individuals and families in South Carolina and North Carolina. Licensed to practice law in both states, Deyaska has built her career around a simple but enduring principle: Every Case Matters™.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, and graduate of Dreher High School, Deyaska began her undergraduate studies at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, before earning her bachelor’s degree in Political Science, with an emphasis in Public Policy, from the University of South Carolina. She later earned her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she also received a Certificate in Dispute Resolution.

Leadership and service have been hallmarks of Deyaska’s legal career from its earliest stages. While in law school, she served as a Director on the Board of the National Black Law Students Association and represented NCCU School of Law as its student liaison to the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.

Following law school, Deyaska quickly emerged as a leader within the profession. In 2015, the North Carolina Bar Association honored her with the Charles F. Blanchard Young Lawyer of the Year Award, presented annually to one young lawyer in recognition of distinguished professional and public service. That same year, she was appointed to serve as the North Carolina State Bar Young Lawyer Delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates, where she was the only African American member of the North Carolina delegation.

Deyaska went on to hold numerous leadership and service roles within the legal profession, including service with the North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Foundation, American Bar Association, and South Carolina Bar. Her work has included initiatives focused on professional development, diversity, mentorship, and creating pathways into the legal profession for future generations of lawyers.

In 2015, Deyaska founded The Deyaska Spencer Law Firm in her hometown of Columbia. More than a decade later, the firm has grown beyond its original Columbia roots, serving clients across the Carolinas while remaining grounded in the personal attention, accountability, and advocacy upon which it was founded. Under Deyaska’s leadership, Every Case Matters™ has developed from a firm philosophy into a standard for how the firm approaches client service, case management, communication, and advocacy.

Deyaska’s professional accomplishments continue to be recognized. In 2026, she was honored by SC Biz News as a Leader in Law, recognizing her leadership and contributions to South Carolina’s legal and business communities. The recognition came as The Deyaska Spencer Law Firm entered its second decade of service and continued its growth across South Carolina and North Carolina.

For Deyaska, however, the measure of a law practice extends beyond its size, longevity, or accolades. Her work remains centered on representing injured people during some of the most difficult periods of their lives and ensuring that they are treated with dignity, kept informed, and represented with purpose.

That commitment remains at the heart of the firm she founded:

Every client deserves to be heard. Every case deserves to be worked. Every Case Matters™.

She is married to Bernard Sweatman, Jr. of Columbia, SC and has two sons and a sweet dog named Raven.
